The swim is typically the discipline that everyone struggles with the most! Unless you were a strong swimmer at school, it’s an uphill struggle for most of us. Trying to improve your swim technique takes time, patience and a lot of effort so it’s good to train with other people to maintain your motivation.

Pool Swims

Many of the club members make use of the excellent swim fit sessions run by Calderdale Council. These are run throughout the week at various locations (Halifax, Sowerby Bridge, Todmorden and Brighouse). Please visit the Calderdale Council website for more details. The Saturday morning session at Sowerby Bridge has a high attendance of Calderdale Tri Club members but don’t go too hard if you’re planning on coming to the social ride at 0930! It’s worth mentioning that through membership of the club, you can secure a discount on annual membership for the Calderdale run sports centres and pools.

Open Water Swims

Temperature and weather permitting we often swim in Gaddings near Todmorden or Sparth near Marsden from May through to September. Both are great locations to get used to swimming outside and in cooler water! Sessions are usually on Wednesday evenings and are not coached but it’s a great way to gain confidence outdoor swimming with other people who can give you tips and share their experience. We usually have some buoys in the water too so it’s a great way to improve your sighting. All sessions are advertised on the Club Facebook page on a weekly basis.

Members also swim at Salford Quays. The club is partnered with Uswim which means members can swim for the discounted price of £4 on production of a membership card. They have swim sessions Wednesday evenings, 5:30pm – 8:00pm and Saturday 8am – 11am.
